NKY SHRM Newsletter - July 2026
Words from the President

Congratulations to everyone on making it halfway through 2026! We have had a
wonderful start to the year. Lunches were well attended, and our speakers were
fantastic. Thank you to all our members and speakers so far for making this year great.
This trend continues in July. Complementing the topic from June on employee
engagement, Andrea Whalen of Clark Schaefer Strategic HR will present “Workplace Culture: What’s Your Civility Index?” As we all know, a good workplace culture is essential for employee well-being and business bottom lines. Come and learn with us at our next meeting on July 28 th .
One thing I couldn’t help but notice at the last meeting was the hum of conversation in the room before the speaker started. This is exactly what we want to see and hear. We are pleased that we have had some new members and guests join us recently for lunch meetings. The speakers and PDCs are only one of the benefits of attending the lunches. The other benefit, of course, is all of you. If you attend the luncheon, please continue talking, getting to know each other, and welcoming in new members. This makes the meetings more fun, and it provides a great experience for everyone.
As a reminder, we won’t meet in August to allow for attendance at KY SHRM. But I hope to see you at the end of July at our next luncheon.
Next Monthly Meeting
Due to the KYSHRM Conference will not have a monthly luncheon in August.
Let us know if you will be attending the KY SHRM Conference, we would love to connect with everyone while in Louisville.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 29th.
See you in September!

Certification

While many HR professionals recognize the personal value of certification, it’s equally important to understand the impact it can have on an organization. In today’s evolving Human Resources landscape, advanced knowledge and validated expertise are key drivers of both individual and organizational success. However, organizations don’t always fully realize the measurable value
that certified HR professionals bring in terms of strategic insight, compliance, and overall effectiveness.
Not sure which certification aligns best with your career goals? SHRM offers an intuitive self-assessment tool designed to help guide your decision. By evaluating your educational background and HR experience, the tool recommends the certification best suited to your professional path.
Based on your responses, you may be guided toward the SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or, if you are not yet eligible, a SHRM Specialty Credential.
Additionally, NKY SHRM offers scholarship opportunities to support your certification journey. To learn more about obtaining your HR certification or to apply for a NKY SHRM scholarship of up to $500, please visit https://nkyshrm.starchapter.com/Financial_Assistance
Certification - Gateway Prep Course

Gateway Community & Technical College Workforce Solutions is offering a $100 Early Bird Discount for our fall class if registered by August 1st. Use Promo Code: SHRM100
Foundation

Did you know that at each monthly NKYSHRM luncheon, we host a raffle featuring a special gift or gift card for just $1 per entry. It is more than a chance to win; it is an opportunity to give back. Each donation supports the impactful work of the SHRM Foundation, benefiting a variety of meaningful programs.
- HR professionals – through research, tools, and professional development resources that help them improve workplace practices.
- Students and emerging HR leaders – via scholarships, educational programs, and career support.
- Organizations and employers – by gaining access to evidence-based HR strategies, improving workforce performance and culture.
- The broader workforce and communities – because the Foundation’s work promotes better workplaces, inclusion, and economic opportunity.
In short, your donations support the advancement of the HR profession while also creating positive impacts for employees, businesses, and communities and who knows, you may be the next winner!
