Presentation Title: Workplace Ethics for Human Resources Managers
Presentation Description: The presentation will address the ethical principles of human resources management using the SHRM Code of Ethics as a guide and discuss strategies for avoiding common pitfalls and promoting ethical leadership in challenging workplace scenarios.
Learning Objectives:
- Ethical leadership requires action based on knowledge of to whom an ethical duty is owed, when to question and consider various perspectives, how to advocate or seek expert guidance, and good judgment concerning legal, business, and personal priorities.
- Human resources managers have an ethical duty to strive for and model the highest standards of professional and ethical competence.
- Human resources managers are ethically responsible for promoting and fostering fairness and justice for all employees and their organizations.
- Human resources have an ethical duty to strive to maintain a high level of trust with stakeholders and avoid actual, apparent, or potential conflicts of interest.

Sarah Leyshock is a partner in the Employment Law Department of Taft Stetinius & Hollister in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her practice focuses on counseling employers on employment law compliance and risk mitigation. She regularly defends clients in court and against charges filed with the EEOC and DOL, and she conducts workplace trainings on important legal issues like civility, preventing discrimination, and leave and accommodation issues. |
Emily Thieman is an associate attorney in Taft’s Employment Law Department. Emily assists employers in structuring company policies, formulating agreements, and working to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
