Presentation Description:

We all have biases. Discovering, understanding, and recognizing the various types are the first steps in having a more inclusive workplace, with improved retention and innovation. They key to managing bias starts with each of us as individuals. With more than 26% of U.S. workers having experienced microaggressions, a form of bias, in the workplace and 36% having witnessed them, we will delve into the various types, the effects they have, and discuss how to unravel bias. 

Presentation Learning Objectives

·       Discover and understand bias – we all have them, and they are in our workplaces.

·       Recognize the various types of bias and how to unravel it.

·       Recognize and understand microaggression and the harmful effects they have on our employees.  

·       Understand that the key to helping manage bias is to start with yourself.

·       The role HR leaders play in creating and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, that minimizes bias. 

Speaker Bio

 

Whitney Vance has over 5 years of hands-on experience in Human Resources working for a plastics manufacturing plant where she focused her efforts on maximizing human talent, and over 4 years of consulting for premier automotive clients. Her passion is employee morale and engagement and working with supervisors to maximize the company’s most important asset, their employees. She brings expertise in the areas of Employee Engagement, Positive Employee Relations, Training and Development, and Projects and Planning.

Ms. Vance has a Bachelor of Science in social science from the University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland.
